The Most Family-Friendly Suburb on the Sunshine Coast

In a report recently commissioned by Well Money, 20 of Australia’s most family-friendly suburbs have been revealed. After taking into account every single suburb in the country, the top 20 were narrowed down by their ranking against a set of parameters. The parameters used to guide the research were:

  • Median house price in the suburb must be between $200,000 to $1.5 million.
  • It must be located more within 200 kilometers from a capital city CBD.
  • Owner-occupiers must make up 70% of the local population.
  • 60% of local dwellings must be freestanding houses.
  • On average, households have 2.5 people living in them.
  • Ranked suburbs must have a SEIFA education score of at least 6*

Therefore, each suburb on this list is deemed family-friendly because of the number of owner-occupiers, the close proximity to capital cities and the above average education and occupation status. All 20 suburbs have also seen increases in inventory levels over the last three months. Meaning that buyers have more options in these areas because there is more stock on the market.

Out of every suburb in Australia, the humble Sunshine Coast suburb of Mons, has ranked third place in the country for being family friendly. This is because the median price of dwellings in Mons is $1.1 million, the suburb achieved a SEIFA education score of 10 and freestanding homes make up 97% of local properties. Mons also saw an 88% owner-occupier share of the population.

From our local knowledge, we know Mons as a secluded, leafy green suburb located just outside of Buderim. Within a 20-minute drive, you and your family can be at Mooloolaba Beach or in the heart of the Maroochydore CBD and then retreat to your own private oasis at the end of the day. These are just a few reasons that Mons gets the tick of approval in our books. If you’re interested in learning more about the local area, contact our property experts today.

* SEIFA, or Socio-economic Indexes for Areas, is a development of the Australian Bureau of Statistics that ranks Australian areas in accordance with relative socioeconomic advantage and disadvantage. A SEIFA education of at least six means a suburb is at the top of the country for educational and occupational status.
